With the proper equipment and planning, you could hang new curtains to freshen up your house's decor.
Equipment & materials
Before you shop
Before you purchase your curtains, measure the width at the top, middle and backside of the window frame.
Make a sketch marking the biggest measurement. Additionally, take note of nearby vents, light switches and electric outlets so you don’t hide them.
Curtain
The dimensions of your curtains makes a difference inside the room's decor:
You could do with longer curtains when you're mounting the rod close to the ceiling. For width, each curtain should have to be as a minimum twice the width of the window and trim.
Rods
Extending the rod 10-15 inches beyond the trim showcases the complete window, making it look wider.
Hang the rod 6 inches above the window body if possible for a better look. You could use an extra-long curtain and hold the rod near the ceiling to make the room seem taller. While you're choosing the curtain and rod placement, keep in mind to account for how the curtain hangs on the rod (hooks, jewelry, tabs, grommets or pockets).
Step 1
To install the curtain rod, measure and mark the bracket places on the wall. Use a level to line up the pencil markings in order that the rod hangs properly.
Double-check the position by putting the rod on the brackets and checking the rod with a level.
Step 2
In case your marks are not covered with studs, set up wall anchors. Ensure the anchors are rated for the load of the curtains and rod. Drill a pilot hole and set up the anchor.
Then set the bracket and force inside the screws. If the bracket rotates or wiggles, modify the screws to make a tighter grip. Rods wider than 4 ft will need a middle support.
Step 3
Take the finials off and set up the rod. Hang the curtains in line with instructions to your rod.
